The American poet Amy Lowell died in 1925. Her will established an annual scholarship to support travel abroad for gifted American-born poets. The scholarship is administered by the Trustees under her will, at the law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart in Boston, Massachusetts. Type of Awards:

• Five (5) Digital SLR Cameras will be awarded to five (5) high school students. (High school applicants should only submit still photographs. The video awards are for college and graduate students only.)
• Five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to five (5) college or technical school students, payable to their school. Four awards will be for video work while one will be for still photography.
• One (1) $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) graduate student, payable to their school, for video work.

Focus of work and entries: PHOTOJOURNALISM_. Scholarships will be awarded to those students whose work “tells a story”. This is a fairly broad topic and may include a variety of subject matter and approaches (breaking news, sporting events, etc.)

Hagan Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship, providing recipients “regardless of nationality” with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Applicants must graduate from a high school located in the United States. Eligible high schools include public, private, charter, magnet, and STEM schools. The Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2023 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. Free workshops, Free Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and Free Study Abroad provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. Hagan Scholars have attended 637 colleges and universities located in 49 states and the District of Columbia.

Hagan Scholars who graduate college while in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship good for up to four additional semesters in college receiving up to $7,500 each semester.

The WebstaurantStore Diversity Scholarship is a $5,000 GRANT created to encourage diversity in the field of hospitality and reward talented students from minority ethnic groups who possess a passion for the culinary arts. DoD SMART Scholarship
The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program, funded by the Department of Defense (DoD), is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) students. SMART offers scholarships for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students currently pursuing a degree in one of the 24 STEM disciplines. SMART scholars receive full tuition, annual stipends, and guaranteed employment with the DoD after graduation. This is a really exciting opportunity for students that are interested in the STEM disciplines.

The Kelly Foundation of Washington is offering $2,500 awards for its scholarship program, the Ewing C. Kelly Scholarship.  This award is named in honor of Ewing C. Kelly, a longtime radio and television broadcaster. The Ewing C. Ben Cheney had a significant interest in supporting youth and youth athletics through his philanthropy. The Ben B. Cheney Foundation continues his legacy by awarding one scholar athlete from each of the 32 high schools in Pierce County, and one from Ben’s hometown, South Bend, each year.
Since 1976, the Ben B. Cheney Foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million in college scholarships through this program.
This $3,000 scholarship recognizes student athletes with plans to further their education in a not-for-profit vocational and technical school, or a 2- or 4-year college in the United States following graduation. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school or college on the student’s behalf the first week of August.

Established in 1989, the Lewis-McChord Family Scholarship Fund strives to provide continuing education scholarships to military children and spouses located in the Joint Base Lewis-McChord area. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of Zeta Omega Omega Chapter are providing an opportunity to graduating high school seniors in Pierce County and selected areas of King, Kitsap, and Thurston Counties.  Scholarship awards will assist students with the cost of college tuition and help reverse the increasing dropout rate among African-American students, especially males, attending colleges and universities.
The Zeta Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Scholarship Committee will award scholarships to African American students from high schools in Pierce County and other selected areas in King, Kitsap, and Thurston Counties. The Smart Choices Scholarship Program is presented by Gesa Credit Union, the Dairy Farmers of Washington and Les Schwab Tires! The 2023 Smart Choices Scholarship Program will recognize graduating seniors from WIAA member high schools for excellence in athletics/activities, academics, leadership and community service throughout their high school careers by awarding three (3) $5,000 scholarships and 12 $1,000 scholarships.

Puget Sound Maritime is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving maritime heritage and culture. Through our YMTA program, we are pleased to offer the Norm Manly Maritime Education Scholarships to students who are pursuing post-high school education or training for maritime careers. Scholarships will be awarded in amounts ranging from $5,000 to $1,500 in the spring of 2024. Steilacoom Historical Education Foundation (SHEF) Scholarships

SHEF scholarships are locally funded and given only to Steilacoom High School Seniors.  Roughly 30 scholarships are given annually totaling over $30,000 for students attending accredited 4-year institutions, community colleges and tech schools. Scholarship amounts vary and can be based on academics, athletics, the arts, volunteer work, and paid work, among other activities. Our community has supported over 500 students as they continue their education after high school by providing more than $500,000 in scholarships over the years.

Generous community members and local organizations fund specific scholarships in their own name, or in memory of family members. SHEF is affiliated with Scholarship America Dollars for Scholars®, linking our community to Dollars for Scholars programs operating across the country, which collectively award more than $41 million to 40,000 students annually.

The Maxwell Scholarship was established to assist high school seniors from Western Washington in obtaining a higher education. For freshmen starting college during the 2023-24 academic year, scholarships will be $5,000 per year or less based on financial need. This award has the potential to be renewed for up to an additional three years of undergraduate education based on financial need and reasonable progress toward graduation. A simple renewal application is required each year.
